What movie or HBO series is this?

The whole movie is about this guy that builds like the biggest cathedral. It was back in the early years. He has red hair. Theres a conspiracy throughout the movie. Like the queen and the bishop are working against this man. He brings in a statue of some type and whenever the sun goes down the statue cries. The ending scene is the whole cathedral built and it shows the present time of the cathedral. Anyone have an idea? Like the whole movie is about this red head guy building a cathedral. I think it was an HBO series or somthing, not sure.
