Is this a bad idea for a tattoo?

I want to get a tattoo of a bishop (the chess piece) on my lower back. It would be small, about 4-6 inches, and in a spot that can be easily covered up. My boyfriend argues not to do it because it "doesn't have any significant meaning behind it." I want to get a tattoo because I think they're very attractive, and bishops are aesthetically appealing. Not to mention playing chess is a big hobby of mine. What do you guys think? Do you agree with what my boyfriend says, that tattoos always should have some meaning behind them?
